Obama Signs Grayson Bill Protecting Veterans From Foreclosure

President Barack Obama has signed into law the Senate companion of Congressman Alan Grayson’s (D-FL09) “Servicemember Foreclosure protections Extension Act of 2015,” which protects veterans from having their homes foreclosed on for one year after their return from active duty. This protection had elapsed at the end of 2015. The “Foreclosure Relief and Extension for Servicemembers Act of 2015” (S. 2393) extends the protection for two years.

Floridians to Receive More Than Six Million Dollars in SunTrust Settlement

Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that more than 4,000 Florida borrowers are receiving checks this week from SunTrust Mortgage as part of a multistate settlement. Florida’s share of the settlement payments is second in the nation only to Georgia. The 2014 settlement with SunTrust Mortgage Inc. by Attorney General Bondi, 48 other states, the District of Columbia and the Federal government required Suntrust to provide $550 million in various forms of relief to homeowners, including a $40 million fund for payments to certain borrowers who lost their homes to foreclosure.

Attorney General Bondi’s Office Sues Tampa Law Firm for Foreclosure Rescue Operation

ALLAHASSEE, FL - August 8, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Office today sued Tampa lawyer Eric Mader, alleging he ran a nationwide foreclosure-rescue operation that charged illegal fees and failed to provide promised assistance to consumers. Some of the allegations include that Mader and his firm, Mader Law Group, lured consumers with websites mimicking government sites, misrepresented that consumers would be enrolled in government assistance programs or could get loan modifications from lenders, and charged fees for services never rendered. Mader allegedly offered refunds to some consumers only if they would withdraw their complaints about him to the Florida Bar, which regulates lawyers.

More Than 72,000 Floridians Who Lost Homes to Foreclosure Will Receive $1,480 Checks

TALLAHASSEE, FL - June 5, 2013 - (RealEstateRama) -- Attorney General Pam Bondi announced today that more than 72,000 eligible Floridians who lost their homes due to foreclosure between 2008 and 2011 and who submitted valid foreclosure claims through the national mortgage settlement will receive checks this month for approximately $1,480. The $1,480 payment amount is uniform for all eligible claimants throughout the country. To be eligible, borrowers must have lost their homes to foreclosure between Jan. 1, 2008 and Dec. 31, 2011, suffered certain foreclosure abuses, and had mortgages serviced by Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase or Wells Fargo. This direct relief provided to eligible claimants is one of the facets of the $26 billion settlement entered last year between 49 state attorneys general, the federal government and the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers
