Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Statement on the Senate Subcommittee’s Plan for National Mortgage Settlement Funds
TALLAHASSEE, FL – March 27, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Attorney General Pam Bondi released the following statement on the Senate Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development’s draft legislation regarding more than $200 million in National Mortgage Settlement funds.
“I thank the Senate Subcommittee for their hard work on this good legislation, and I look forward to working with the House and Senate on a final product that uses the mortgage settlement funds to help Florida’s homeowners and to ameliorate the foreclosure crisis in our state.”
Last year, Florida entered a landmark $25 billion joint federal-state agreement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicers over foreclosure abuses and unacceptable nationwide mortgage servicing practices. The agreement holds banks accountable, provides substantial relief to struggling Florida homeowners, and ensures that Floridians get their fair share of the relief being provided nationally. In February, Attorney General Bondi announced that Floridians have received more than $8.3 billion in relief under the national mortgage settlement, as reported by the five largest mortgage servicing banks that are parties to the settlement.
