WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 6, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Nearly 450 homeless individuals received shelter and meals during the most recent cold weather emergency advisory issued for March 1-3 for Broward County.
Broward County’s Homeless Initiative Partnership, charged with maintaining a countywide continuum of care for the homeless, had four facilities open from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. each of those days. The homeless were served at both the North and South Homeless Assistance Centers, the Central Homeless Assistance Center and the Salvation Army.
“Sheltering persons experiencing homelessness during a cold weather activation is a collaborative effort between multiple service organizations and County agencies,” said Michael Wright, administrator of the Homeless Initiative Partnership. These organizations and agencies include 2-1-1 Homeless Help Line, nonprofit homeless shelter providers, law enforcement agencies, Broward County Transit and the Task Force for Ending Homelessness.
