Juan Carlos Vila Presents $55,000 Donation to Build Local Fisher House in Miami-Dade
MIAMI, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ — Juan Carlos Vila, C.E.O. of Vila & Son Landscaping Corp., one of the nation’s fastest-growing privately owned Hispanic companies, presented a check for $55,000 to retired U.S. Army Colonel and Fisher House Miami Champion Lettie Bien this past November 30, at the conclusion of his company’s golf invitational. The tournament, specifically organized for the purpose of raising funds for Fisher House(TM), was held at Doral Golf & Resort, with more than 140 participant golfers.
The Fisher House(TM) is a private-public partnership supporting the country’s military families by providing “comfort homes” built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members and friends to be close to their loved ones during hospital stays at no cost. With an active VA hospital in Miami-Dade, a Fisher House project will make a welcome addition to the services rendered to the nation’s uniformed men and women. According to the Fisher House Foundation requirements, initial funds to build these comfort homes must be first raised by the interested community. This initial contribution is the first of the required $2 million raised by the local community for construction to start on the next Fisher House adjacent to the Miami VA Hospital.
This activity on the part of Vila & Son is the latest in a series of efforts to support the service men and women of the armed forces. The company has hosted picnics for SOUTHCOM soldiers and their families, and Mr. Vila has participated in the Department of Defense’s Joint Civilian Orientation Conference, as well as traveling abroad on Southern Command humanitarian and educational missions. “When I first heard of Fisher House, I knew I wanted to do my part to help them build a local unit,” stated Mr. Vila. “I am an immigrant who appreciates on a daily basis the sacrifice of our military, and the freedom their contribution allows us to enjoy, so it is not only an honor, but an obligation on my part to raise funds for the organization.”
