Eco-Friendly Waterway Village Pays Homage to Bald Eagle with Expansive Conservation Area
Florida one of nation’s top eagle havens
VERO BEACH, Fla., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Homebuyers are flocking to Waterway Village, DiVosta Homes’ master-planned community in Vero Beach, to live near among the nation’s most coveted species … the bald eagle.
According to a recent article in the New York Times, those lucky enough to live near such areas throughout Florida see the bald eagle as “part mascot, part amenity and a thorough blessing.”
Whether observing day-to-day rituals of feeding and bathing or seasonal activities such as spring flight training, residents of Waterway Village can enjoy the natural habitat of Florida in their own backyards. Few places in Indian River County provide the public with a grand view of these majestic birds in such a beautiful setting.
“Our research shows that the bald eagles have been residents of the Waterway Village site for more than 20 years,” said Ryan Marshall, president of Pulte Homes’ Orlando and Southeast Florida. “Protection and conservation of the nesting eagles was a high priority in the design and construction of this project.”
Taken off the list of Endangered Species just this year, the bald eagle was officially declared the National Emblem of the United States in 1782. Florida is one of the top eagle havens in the country.
The 2006-2007 nesting season was the first season where the construction occurred in the vicinity of the nesting pair, as the construction of the freshwater marsh and pond proceeded. Monitoring efforts by certified biologists showed that the eagles nested successfully during that period and should continue to utilize the site for years to come.
In addition to the bald eagle conservation area, the developer of the project has also set aside approximately 77 acres of native uplands along the eastern portion of the project to provide habitat for other wildlife species that occupy the site. This area was used as a relocation site for Florida gopher tortoises that were moved from pasture areas prior to construction. As with the eagle preserve, this habitat was also improved via the removal of non-native vegetation and selective clearing of the canopy.
Waterway Village is situated on 696 acres enhanced with sparkling lakes and beautiful preserves. Residents enjoy all of the amenities of first-class living with waterfront and preserve home sites, lakefront Village Center, a heated resort style swimming pool, tot lot, state-of-the-art fitness center, and tennis courts.
In addition to an impressive list of included features such as granite countertops, maple cabinets with crown molding and low maintenance exteriors, all homes include a Safe Room, a solid concrete room with 9′ ceiling for maximum protection against hurricanes. The safe rooms double as walk-in closets in the master bedrooms, are built to FEMA standards and are rated for withstanding winds up to 250 MPH.
