Tampa, FL – January 31, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Timothy Reinhold, PhD, senior vice president of research and chief engineer for the Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) has been named an Engineering News-Records’ Top 25 Newsmaker for 2010.

According to the Engineering News-Record (ENR), top newsmakers are chosen for their innovations and achievements, for giving back to the industry and the public, and for going beyond the duties of their day-to-day jobs. The winners will be honored at a gala in New York City on April 7.

“In the closing weeks of each year the editors of Engineering News-Record meet for an exhaustive review of the hundreds of stories they have published during the year. The purpose is to select 25 individuals–’Newsmakers’–that they have reported on, whose accomplishments promise to have a lasting and significant positive impact on the construction industry,” said Jan Tuchman, editor-in-chief of ENR. “The Newsmakers come from within the construction industry and from without; the point is that our editors are convinced that what these people have done really matters and will improve the built world.

“We believe Dr. Reinhold deserves a place on this year’s list for holding fast to his dreams; dreams which have led to the creation of a significant and unique test facility that is capable of helping the industry build stronger, safer, more resilient structures of all kinds, for all people,” Tuchman added.

The test facility is the IBHS Research Center in South Carolina. Under the leadership of Dr. Reinhold, scientists at the multi-hazard lab will meticulously replicate a variety of real-world wind, rain, hail and fire storms that will allow them to fully and accurately evaluate various residential and commercial construction materials and systems.

“This is such well-deserved recognition for Tim,” said Julie Rochman, IBHS president and CEO. “His dedication, vision, thought leadership, and his tireless work efforts have turned a long-time dream for many people and industries into reality. The world-class IBHS Research Center is unique in all the world. Tim’s legacy will be building science that improves homes, buildings and communities for many generations to come. It is truly a pleasure and an honor to work with Tim.”
