Florida Fair Housing Summit: A Call to Advance Housing Rights and Opportunities

WASHINGTON – (RealEstateRama) — On April 28, 2016, the 5th Annual Florida Fair Housing Summit called housing professionals to advance housing rights and opportunities. The Summit is the premier annual educational event for fair housing advocates and housing providers in the state of Florida. A total of 242 community members, advocates, local government administrators, housing providers, property managers, attorneys, real estate agents, and mortgage lenders came together to experience a conference that educated, engaged, and motivated.
The one-day summit was filled with intense workshops on topics raging from affirmatively furthering fair housing to creating accessible homes and inclusive, sustainable diverse communities. It also featured innovative and powerful keynote speakers that made this year’s Summit one to remember.
Krista Mills, Director of Programs and Compliance Division, Region IV Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), delivered a moving speech that addressed mass incarceration and the participants’ ability to step up and address this issue throughout our communities and nation. The Summit also featured Shanna Smith, President/CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance, who shared the national perspective of Fair Housing and what can be done in the state of Florida to protect the housing rights of those in our community.
IMGP0822Civil Rights Photographer Bernard Kleina was honored as this year’s Civil Rights Hero. Mr. Kleina has produced audio-visual presentations on poverty and fair and affordable housing issues. His imagery sheds light on the serious issues that occur in our country still to this day. He has received numerous recognition and praise for his work and is renowned throughout the nation and in Europe.
