Florida Supreme Court Decision on Citizen Challenge to Utility-Backed Solar Power Amendment Disappoints
The Florida Supreme Court decision today is a blow to the future of rooftop solar power in Florida. “This dirty political trick perpetrated by the giant utility corporations will now be on the ballot in November,” said Earthjustice attorney David Guest. “This amendment hoodwinks voters by giving the impression that it will encourage the use of rooftop solar when, in fact, it would do the opposite. If the Constitutional amendment passes, people who install rooftop solar could end up with higher utility bills than if they did not have solar.
Lake County Fire Rescue reminds residents to change smoke alarm batteries during daylight saving...
“Having a working smoke alarm allows residents time to get out of a burning home, and cuts the chances of dying in a residential fire in half,” said Lake County Fire Rescue Fire Marshal Capt. Michael Vitta. “Most home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes without a proper smoke alarm, which is why it is so important to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area and on every level of your home, and to make sure they are working at all times.”
AUTHORIZE CEPP TO SEND WATER SOUTH
Florida lawmakers from both parties and both chambers united to push for Congressional authorization of the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) in the upcoming Water Resources Development Act to allow this vital project to move forward without further delay. Once completed, CEPP will increase water flow south of Lake Okeechobee, reducing the harmful discharges to the St. Lucie and Caloosahatchee rivers to the east and west of the lake. Sidewalk Closure on Doyle Carlton Drive Will Begin January 4, 2016 for Riverwalk Construction
As part of construction of the latest Riverwalk segment, the City of Tampa will begin demolition of the existing sidewalk along Doyle Carlton Drive between Laurel Street and Water Works Park on Monday, January 4, 2016. The sidewalk will be closed to all pedestrian traffic along the river while construction is on-going. Work is expected to be completed by the end of April 2016.

CBRE ARRANGES $111 MILLION SALE OF EAST TAMPA OFFICE PARK
CBRE has arranged the sale of a portfolio of five Class A office properties totaling 575,852 square feet in the Highland Oaks office park, a 1-million-square-foot suburban office park in Tampa, FL. An undisclosed buyer acquired the property for $111 million. CBRE represented the seller in the transaction.
Palm Beach County: Home Sales Dropped to 38 Median Days on Market
Year-over-year market statistics for July 2015 reported accelerated demand for single family homes in Palm Beach County. Closed sales rose 19.5 percent from 1,515 to 1,810 transactions, and median sale price rose 3.3 percent from $280,000 to $289,250. Meanwhile, median days on market dropped a significant 30.9 percent from 55 to 38 days. As for inventory levels, they continued to decline, down 6.7 percent from 7,246 to 6,761 active listings and down 21.6 percent from 5.7 to 4.5 months’ supply.

Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater today announced that a $15.5 million settlement has been secured as a result of a contract investigation involving U.S. Foods, Inc. The investigation conducted by the Department of Financial Services’ Office of Fiscal Integrity concluded that U.S. Foods falsely inflated its prices for supply food services to the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) between 2008 and 2014. Through this deceitful billing practice, U.S. Foods wrongly collected millions in state dollars.
