Downtown construction for government parking garage, office building is two-thirds complete

TAVARES, FL – March 23, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Lake County Department of Facilities Development & Management presented its quarterly construction update to the Lake County Board of County Commissioners at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday with the ongoing downtown projects as the top highlight.

Construction on the two-story building for the Property Appraiser and Tax Collector offices, the eight-story parking garage and central energy plant in downtown Tavares began in May 2008. According to Jim Bannon, Director of Capital Construction & Facilities, the projected completion date for the construction projects is May-June of this year.

“The project is on schedule and approximately 67 percent complete as of Feb. 28,” Bannon said.

The parking garage is probably the furthest along in the construction phase. Painting, fire systems, electrical work and the garage’s elevators are near completion. Items completed last month on the project included the final concrete pour for the ground floor and installation of the last pre-cast concrete section.

During the construction process, the Department of Facilities Development & Management has hosted monthly meetings with stakeholders and conducted walkthroughs of the construction site. In addition, on a weekly basis the staff from the Department meets with the architect and contractor to discuss the project’s progress.
