TAVARES, FL – January 12, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — The Lake County Department of Economic Growth & Redevelopment is welcoming a new addition to the Christopher C. Ford Commerce Park, the Lakeview Distribution Center, which is under construction by IDI, an industrial real-estate developer.

“The Christopher C. Ford Commerce Park continues to attract quality developments to the community,” said Dottie Keedy, Director of the Department of Economic Growth & Redevelopment. “The Lakeview Distribution Center is expected to bring new jobs to the community as well as set the bar for green-building initiatives in the private sector.”

According to IDI, it has begun site work on a 359,590-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility at Lakeview Distribution Center. The Class-A, cross-dock facility is the first industrial project in Central Florida designed to receive certification in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. The voluntary program provides a complete framework for assessing building performance and meeting sustainability goals. The company has registered the building for LEED certification. It expects to receive certification by summer 2009 with the project scheduled for completion in June 2009.

The Christopher C. Ford Commerce Park is strategically located on U.S. Highway 27 at the crossroads of State Road 19 and Florida’s Turnpike. Lake County purchased the land for the industrial park in the 1980s following catastrophic freezes to area citrus crops. The intent of the County land purchase was to develop an industrial park, which would enable Lake County to diversify the economy and create quality jobs.

More than 700 acres have been sold in the park. Companies such as Circuit City Stores Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Carroll Fulmer Trucking, Domino’s Pizza, Maritec Industries, and Metals, USA have realized the benefits of the strategic location of the Park.
