Ross Appointed to Multiple New Subcommittees

WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 30, 2017 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Dennis A. Ross (FL-15), Senior Deputy Majority Whip, has been appointed to multiple subcommittees within the House Committees of Financial Services (FSC) and Oversight and Government Reform (OGR).

Along with being appointed as Vice Chair of the FSC Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, Ross has been appointed to the Subcommittees on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit and Oversight and Investigations. Ross also has been appointed to the OGR Subcommittees on the Interior, Energy and Environment and Government Operations.

The FSC Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit oversees all financial regulators, such as the Federal Reserve and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, all matters pertaining to consumer credit, including the Consumer Credit Protection Act, access to financial services, and the safety and soundness of the banking system.

Ross’ additional FSC subcommittee, Oversight and Investigations, conducts oversight of agencies, departments and programs under the FSC’s jurisdiction. This subcommittee further conducts investigations on any matter within the jurisdiction of the FSC, and evaluates the need for any legislative changes to the laws and programs within this jurisdiction.

“Serving on the Financial Institutions and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittees is an incredible honor that I plan to uphold with the highest integrity and responsibility. Protecting consumers and ensuring Americans have access to safe banking systems must be a national priority, of which my colleagues and I promise to preserve and advance. I also look forward to holding agencies and departments under the FSC’s jurisdiction accountable so we can eliminate fraud, waste, mismanagement and abuse by large government bureaucracies.”

As announced earlier this month, Ross was also appointed as Vice Chair of the FSC Housing and Insurance Subcommittee. While serving on this subcommittee for the past 4 years, Ross spearheaded and passed multiple pieces of legislation to promote a thriving housing and insurance market for Floridians and all Americans, such as the Flood Insurance Market Parity and Modernization Act and the Private Investment in Housing Act.

Ross is equally thrilled to serve on OGR again, as it is a rare honor for a member to serve on a second House committee while also serving on what is known as an “A” committee, like the FSC.

With jurisdiction over the Departments of the Interior, Energy, and Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the OGR Subcommittee on Interior, Energy and Environment will allow Ross to oversee many regulations that greatly affect Florida’s environment and public lands.

“The responsibilities of the OGR Interior Subcommittee align very well with much of my expertise and the interests of Central Florida and the Tampa Bay Region,” said Ross. “District 15 is blessed with a strong agricultural presence and issues related to our public lands, and the EPA greatly affects the cattlemen, citrus growers and other specialty crop producers I am proud to represent. Additionally, as an avid outdoorsman and Chair of the House Recreation Vehicle Caucus, I have worked closely with the Department of the Interior to ensure our public lands remain accessible and useable to the American People.”

Ross’ second OGR subcommittee, Government Operations, has jurisdiction over the Department of Treasury, the Executive Office of the President, the Postal Service, the Department of Labor and the Office of Management and Budget.

“I am proud to represent the American People on the Government Operations Subcommittee so we can guarantee they have access to critical information about the operations of their government,” said Ross. “This subcommittee ensures federal agencies are open and transparent in their execution of federal law, and that Americans will be able to more effectively hold public officials accountable with the knowledge provided by this access to information.”
