Rooney Supports HUD Grants for Hurricane Disaster Recovery

Washington, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Thomas J. Rooney (R-FL) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s announcement it will send over $791 million to Florida to repair homes and buildings damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Matthew:

“To call Hurricane Irma a ‘monster storm’ is an understatement,” Congressman Rooney said. “Both Irma and Matthew wreaked havoc on Florida’s businesses and infrastructure and Floridians need our help if they ever want to recover.”

Approximately $28 billion will be distributed through HUD’s Community Development Block Grants to help nine states, local governments, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands repair and restore homes and businesses damaged by hurricanes, floods and wildfires. HUD will send approximately $791 million to Florida.

Congressman Rooney, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, has led the charge and routinely supported disaster recovery efforts. In February, the House and Senate passed a $90 billion aid package to assist communities devastated by last year’s hurricanes, floods and wildfires.

“These disaster recovery grants are the helping hand Floridians need to lift themselves up and get back on their feet again, and I am proud to have supported them,” Rooney said.
