TAVARES, FL – January 25, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — The Lake County Department of Public Safety would like to remind all County residents about the importance of having a battery-powered, tone-alert NOAA weather radio in their homes for severe weather events.
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Melbourne, Fla. is predicting the potential for severe weather conditions for Lake County beginning this afternoon and continuing throughout the evening, with a possibility for damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.
Weather radios broadcast NWS warnings, watches, forecasts and other non-weather related hazard information 24 hours a day.
“The importance of having a working weather radio during night events cannot be stressed enough,” said Tommy Carpenter, Lake County’s Emergency Management Operations Manager. “Being able to receive alerts during the evening can ensure that families receive warning to seek shelter and remain safe during severe weather.”
