Clawson Supports WIIN Act to Fund Water Projects Vital to South Florida
Last week, the House of Representatives passed S. 612, the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, with a vote of 360-61. This bill is the compromise legislation to reconcile differences between the House and Senate versions of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), both of which authorized over $1.9 billion for the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP).

With the help of U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14), hundreds of veterans, seniors, troops, families and neighbors in the Tampa Bay area recovered more than $1.6 million in unpaid federal benefits in 2016. Nearly half—$773,132—was owed to our local veterans for benefits they have earned.

U.S. Representative Patrick E. Murphy (FL-18) voted in support of the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation (WIIN) Act, which included language authorizing the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP) to send more clean water south. The WIIN Act combines portions of the House and Senate versions of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) that both chambers previously passed.

Colombia remains the top foreign country searching for South Florida real estate, according to new data from the MIAMI Association of REALTORS® (MIAMI). The South American nation finished as the top international country using MIAMI’s search portal, www.Miamire.com, in September 2016. Colombia has now led the MIAMI rankings for 10 consecutive months.

New AARP report highlights significant out-of-pocket costs for family caregivers
A new AARP report issued today details the out-of-pocket costs for caregivers in the United States – on average, family caregivers are spending 20 percent of their total income on caregiving expenses. This builds on last year’s AARP family caregiving report, which revealed the number of family caregivers in the United States – about 40 million, with Florida home to nearly 2.7 million of these caregivers.
