Lake County invites the public to celebrate the grand opening of the new Altoona Community Center
ALTOONA – October 9, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Lake County’s Housing & Community Development Division is inviting the public to celebrate the grand opening of the new Altoona Community Center at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 at 42630 State Road 19, Altoona.
The new community center was made possible through renovations to the interior of the Altoona Charter School. Improvements include a large meeting room, bathroom facilities, and separate classrooms. The site will be used as classrooms and a lunch area during school, but will serve as a community center during the evening and weekend hours, serving as an emergency shelter and a site for blood drives, food distribution, elder activities, after-school functions, flu shots, civic clubs, and county and School Board-sponsored events.
“The Altoona Charter School improvement project included renovations of a historical building that had been vacant on the site for more than 20 years,” said Cheryl Howell, Housing & Community Development Division manager. “This community center will add valuable, usable space for both local school children and the community of Altoona as a whole. We are thankful to our partners on both the state and federal level for helping to make this project possible.”
The Altoona Community Center was funded in part by a Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program for $453,792 and a State of Florida Department of Economic Opportunity grant for $206,605, for a total project cost of $660,397.
