Extension service announces upcoming classes; Water School program
TAVARES –- (RealEstateRama) — The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is offering the following educational classes this month:
• Saturday in the Gardens: Water Wise Landscapes from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17 at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares. Have you been rethinking your lawn and landscape? Attend this class to learn about drought-tolerant plants, easy irrigation practices and landscape design. The $5 registration fee is required by 3 p.m. on Friday, June 16 at http://waterwiselandscapes.eventbrite.com or by calling 352-343-4101 ext. 2721.
• Nourish Your Skin (2 classes offered) from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at Lady Lake Public Library, 225 W. Guava St., Lady Lake and from 2-3 p.m. on Monday, June 26 at the Leesburg Public Library, 100 E. Main St., Leesburg. Learn how to protect the largest organ of the body – your skin. Topics include: skin cancer self-checks, proper application of sunscreens, staying hydrated, vitamin D and nutrition. • Water School from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27 at the Lake County Extension Center. This informative program is offered to residents of Lake and Sumter counties to promote awareness of local water issues. Expert guests will speak about the cost of water, lake levels, and more. • Get Your Grill On from 10 a.m. – noon on Thursday, June 29 at the Lake County Extension Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares. Have you ever wondered what cuts of beef are best for the grill? What’s the difference between grass-fed and grass-finished? How can you select a great steak? Get the answers to all of these questions while learning safe grilling techniques and healthy recipes.
