WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-25), Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, issued the following statement after the collapse of the FIU Pedestrian Bridge.
“I am shocked and horrified by the FIU Pedestrian Bridge collapse. I am praying for the victims and families of this tragedy.
“I was grateful to have received a phone call from Transportation Secretary Chao, who offered her condolences and utmost support during this time. As the NTSB has announced they will be conducting an investigation, I will fully review their findings so we can address how this happened and how to prevent it from ever happening again.”
As Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Diaz-Balart’s Subcommittee funds the Department of Transportation’s TIGER grant program. The grants are reviewed and awarded by the Department of Transportation; Diaz-Balart’s Subcommittee does not choose grant awardees or the private sector companies they choose to collaborate with for design, construction, and implementation.
