Congressman Garamendi Keynotes I-80/680 SR 12 Interchange Project Ribbon Cutting
FAIRFIELD, CA – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, Davis, Yuba City, CA) joined Caltrans Director Malcom Dougherty, Assemblymembers Bill Dodd and Jim Frazier, Solano County Supervisors Skip Thomson, Jim Spering, and John Vasquez, Fairfield Mayor Harry Price, Rio Vista Mayor Norman Richardson and other local leaders at the I-80/680 SR 12 Interchange Project Ribbon Cutting.
“The completion of the I-80/680 SR 12 Interchange Project will greatly benefit the people of Solano County and the people of the United States because for every $1 we spend on infrastructure, we get $3.54 back in economic activity. Good roads allow people to work, participate in the economy, move commerce, and lay the foundation for economic growth. The fact is, for every $1 billion invested in transportation and infrastructure, 21,670 jobs are created,” said Congressman Garamendi.
“Congress needs to provide more funding to fix America’s crumbling infrastructure. Currently 68% of roads in California are rated “poor” by the U.S. Department of Transportation. We do not need to spend $1 trillion rebuilding our nuclear arsenal when that money could be better spent on improving and updating America’s roads,” added Garamendi.
The existing I-80/I-180/SR-12 interchange complex was built in the 1960s and experiences large amounts of congestion due to substantial increases in regional traffic and truck traffic. This project will construct a two-lane westbound I-80 to westbound SR-12 connector, including an auxiliary lane on I-80. Upon completion, the project will reduce congestion and improve highway operations and mobility. The project is expected to complete construction by Spring 2017.
The project is developed through a partnership among the Solano Transportation Authority (STA), City of Fairfield, Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), California Transportation Commission (CTC), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
