City of Tampa to Create the West Tampa Community Redevelopment Area – Community Redevelopment Board, Tampa City Council to Consider Plan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 10, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The City of Tampa is creating a new Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) in West Tampa. The public is encouraged to attend two public meetings on Thursday, June 11, 2015.
First, the Tampa Community Redevelopment Agency Board will meet at 9:00 a.m. to accept the West Tampa Community Redevelopment Plan from the Planning Commission and submit the plan to the City Council. Public comment will be heard. City Council will then hold a Public Hearing during a Special Call meeting at 9:30 a.m. to consider adoption of the West Tampa Community Redevelopment Plan and for the first reading of the ordinance creating the West Tampa Community Redevelopment Trust Fund. The second reading of the ordinance will occur at the Tampa City Council meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2015.
The West Tampa Community Redevelopment Plan was created with public input from two community meetings held in April, other previous plans, and comments provided to City staff. The plan can be viewed on the City of Tampa website at: tampagov.net/cra.
The boundary of the proposed West Tampa CRA is the Hillsborough River on the east; Armenia Avenue on the west; Columbus Drive on the north; and Kennedy Blvd. to the south.
West Tampa joins the other existing Community Redevelopment Areas in Tampa: Central Park Village, Channel District, Downtown, Drew Park, East Tampa, Tampa Heights Riverfront, and Ybor City. Each of the CRAs use a portion of property taxes collected within the areas to finance improvements outlined in their respective Community Redevelopment Plans.
