Miami, FL – June 14, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — CBRE Cares hosted “Bowling for Teachers,” an evening bowling event, that raised more than $30,000 to support first and second year teachers participating in the charitable Teach For America program. CBRE Cares, the philanthropic arm of CBRE, matched the donations of over 100 CBRE professionals, corporate sponsors and special invited guest in order to raise the funds. Teach For America recruits, trains and develops a diverse group of leaders to teach and expand educational opportunities in underserved classrooms throughout Miami-Dade County and across the United States. Funds raised at “Bowling for Teachers” will specifically support Teach For America group members in the Homestead, FL area.
“We prepare our teachers to partner with veteran educators and the community to ensure we’re working together to support our students for success. We are incredibly grateful to CBRE Cares for bringing members of our community together to ‘Bowl for Teachers’ and to meet some of the educators and students they’ll be supporting this coming school year,” said Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, Executive Director of Teach For America Miami-Dade.
Teach For America began placing corps members in Miami-Dade County Public Schools in 2003 to help support local school districts address disparities in educational outcomes between students in the county’s low-income neighborhoods, as compared to their higher-income counterparts. Since 2003, nearly 800 Teach For America corps members have taught in underserved schools in Miami-Dade, reaching nearly 56,000 students. Miami-Dade is also home to nearly 190 Teach For America alumni, many of whom are local leaders in education.
“I am proud to be surrounded by folks that have given from the heart and recruited sponsors to donate to support Teach For America and our CBRE Cares “Bowling For Teachers” event,” said Charles Foschini, ‘Bowling For Teachers’ Chair. “We have eclipsed $30,000 in funds raised and have met our goal of placing six teachers into the Homestead school system. CBRE Cares is making an impact and next year Homestead students will have the opportunity to learn from selfless leaders who join TFA to give our kids a chance and to make our communities a better place.”
