Buchanan to Hold Foreclosure Prevention Event

Lenders, Federal and Local Agencies to Provide Free Assistance October 10

Washington, DC – September 28, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Vern Buchanan (FL-13) announced today that he will hold a foreclosure assistance workshop on Saturday, October 10, 2009. In attendance will be several lenders, federal agencies, and local housing and counseling agencies, which will be available to assist residents of Florida’s 13th District from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the student union at State College of Florida, 5840 26th St. West, Bradenton, Florida.

“Local homeowners have been hit hard by the recession,” said Buchanan. “Far too many of my constituents are facing foreclosure. I am hopeful that this event will help struggling families stay in their homes.”

According to data released this month by RealtyTrac Inc, one in every 180 Manatee County homeowners received a foreclosure notice last month, while one in every 260 homeowners received a notice in Sarasota County.

Among the topics to be discussed are how to work with lenders and housing counselors, how to avoid scams, refinancing and loan modification options, and information about HUD’s loss mitigation program for FHA mortgages.

The Federal Trade Commission, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, HUD, VA Regional Loan Center, Sun Trust Bank, Fifth Third Bank, J.P Morgan Chase, Manatee Community Action Agency, Manatee County Neighborhood Services, Goodwill Industries, Manasota, Inc. GoodHomes Project, St. Petersburg Neighborhood Housing Services, Salvation Army, Consumer Credit Counseling, Jewish Family and Children Service, Gulf Coast Legal Services, Sarasota Bradenton Real Estate Attorneys Council, Sarasota County Foreclosure Resource Assistance Network, and Jobs Etc. have all agreed to provide free assistance.
