TAVARES – January 26, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County is offering classes in Tavares, Leesburg and Lady Lake to help snowbirds learn tips and tricks for closing their seasonal homes.

The free programs, presented by Julie England, Family and Consumer Sciences extension agent, will discuss the proper way to close a home for an extended period of time, including preparing interiors and exteriors, preventing mold and mildew, storm preparation, updating documents, preventing pests and protection from burglars. Participants will gain an understanding of what they can do to minimize the possibility of discovering serious problems when they return.

“An empty home is susceptible to a myriad of potentially dangerous and costly issues,” said England. “This class will help homeowners who leave their Florida homes for long periods of time to develop a plan to prevent damage while they are away, whether for the season or even a long vacation.”

The classes are free, but registration is required and available online at http://bit.ly/lakefcs. To register by phone, call 352-343-4101 ext. 2719 or 2721.
