WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor announced that the Tampa Housing Authority and local partners received a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant for $2.5 million to connect residents to education, training and jobs as part of the Jobs-Plus Initiative. The Tampa Housing Authority is one of only six recipients of the grant nationwide and the only Florida recipient. The Tampa Housing Authority will provide training in technical skills that is so important for landing a job.
“We are helping our neighbors who need it the most find jobs and opportunities to lift their families out of poverty,” said Castor, who championed the grant. “This investment in our neighbors and our community will help improve job opportunities and increase the likelihood of higher-paying jobs for Robles Park families”.
The Jobs-Plus Program is one of many ways HUD is collaborating with local communities to expand prospects for and lift our neighbors. Other partners in this collaborative effort are CareerSource Tampa Bay, Robles Park Village Resident Council, University Area Community Development Corporation, Hillsborough County Public Schools, Hillsborough Community College and the Center for Nonprofit and Community Development. Together with the Tampa Housing Authority they will develop locally-based, job-driven approaches to increase earnings and advance employment outcomes in Robles Park Village. The Tampa Housing Authority hopes to accomplish this through work readiness, employer linkages, job placement, educational advancement technology skills, and financial literacy for its residents.
