Major Roadway and Infrastructure Improvements in Downtown Tampa to Begin August 29

-

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (RealEstateRama) — As part of the master planned development in southern downtown Tampa, roadway and infrastructure improvements will begin on Monday, August 29, 2016.

The initial lane closures along Channelside Drive and Morgan Street mark the beginning of roadway and infrastructure improvements in the southern downtown area over the next 18-24 months. Traffic advisories will be sent out to notify the public of the construction impacts throughout the construction process.

A website, DowntownTampaGrid.com, has been launched for the local community to stay connected with the ongoing construction. The improvements will help create a functional street grid through southern downtown, linking downtown’s Channel District with the Central Business District. The improved street grid includes wide sidewalks and enhanced lighting to become the foundation for the active streetscapes planned by the developer, Strategic Property Partners.

Included in the project scope:

Resurfacing and reconstruction of 11,229 ft of roadway
Eventual conversion of Channelside Drive from a one-way, eastbound only roadway into a two-way roadway between Morgan Street and Meridian Avenue
Conversion of Jefferson Street from a one-way roadway to a two-way roadway
Extension of Old Water Street north from Channelside Drive to Cumberland Avenue, creating a new north-south connection through the area
8,310 ft of new water, sewer, and stormwater pipes to support the area’s redevelopment
Addition of technology infrastructure
Installation of 6,446 ft of chiller pipe to support a centralized cooling facility
338 new on-street parking spaces
3,269 ft of bike lanes throughout the project area
Wide sidewalks to enhance walkability and the pedestrian experience, as well as to provide opportunities for outdoor dining and gatherings
Improved street and sidewalk lighting
Stantec is the design engineer with Kimmins Contracting Corporation as the contractor.

The City of Tampa through the Community Redevelopment Agency and Hillsborough County will reimburse Strategic Property Partners for improvements made which benefit the general public per the infrastructure agreement approved in 2015.
