Free program to help residents prepare homes for extended absences

TAVARES – February 25, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The UF/Lake County Extension is hosting a program called “Closing Your Seasonal Home,” meant to help residents prepare the interior and exterior of homes when leaving for extended periods. Topics will include preventing mold and mildew, storm preparation, deterioration of the exterior, updating documents, preventing pests and intrusion of burglars.

The session will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 5, at the Lake County Agriculture Center, 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares.

“People aren’t the only ones who love Florida’s weather,” said Julie England, family and consumer sciences extension agent with the UF/Lake County Extension, who will present during the session. “If you’re leaving home for an extended period of time, whether for the season or a long vacation, it’s important to develop a plan to prevent damage so that you don’t come home to a serious problem. An empty home is susceptible to moisture, mildew, pests, storms and more.”

Registration is requested. To register, visit or call 352-343-4101 ext. 2719.
