Lake County parking garage in downtown Tavares opens June 1

TAVARES, FL – May 29, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Parking woes for the Lake County Government Complex in downtown Tavares — including the offices of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Fifth Judicial Circuit, Property Appraiser, Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections and Tax Collector — will come to an end on Monday, June 1, when an eight-story, 1,547-space parking garage is scheduled to open.

Located between the Sinclair and Texas avenues, the free parking garage will be open to the public and employees. The entrance and exit to the parking garage is located off Sinclair Avenue. During next week’s grand opening, a law-enforcement officer in the evening will help direct the traffic exiting the garage.

The Lake County Board of County Commissioners approved a new parking policy this week that requires employees to park their personal vehicles on the higher parking levels to give consideration to public parking. In addition, an interlocal agreement between the County and the City of Tavares stipulates the City can use of the parking garage for special events when it is not needed for County purposes.

Construction on the parking garage began in May 2008 by PPI Construction. The two-story office building for the Tax Collector and Property Appraiser offices, which is adjacent to the parking garage and fronting Main Street, will open later this summer.
