Exhibits Include 1,100 Mile-Per-Hour Bullets and Starving Termites

ALYS BEACH, Fla., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ — Alys Beach officially unveiled the resort town’s new Resource Center today. The center serves as an interactive exploration of Alys Beach’s extraordinary founding vision, as well as a beautiful state-of-the-art cultural and educational exhibit.

“Alys Beach is an amazing place where families will gather and flourish for generations,” said Jason Comer , Alys Beach’s Town Founder. “As we build our town, we’re pushing the envelope in every conceivable way. It’s not just about building economic value, but about creating spiritual and social value as well. Alys Beach’s external beauty is self-evident, but by exploring our new Resource Center, visitors will be able to better understand our town’s inner beauty too.”

The exhibit’s self-guided tour utilizes fun touch-screen computers, and highlights why Alys Beach is different from every other town before it. The exhibit also celebrates the town’s treasured natural habitat and explains why all homes in Alys Beach are built to the highest standards set forth by the Florida Green Building Coalition.

“The Resource Center showcases everything from carnivorous plants to the many energy-saving features of our homes,” said Christian Wagley , the town’s Environmental Program Manager. “You’ll even learn why termites starve at Alys Beach.”

Museum-quality displays also demonstrate the latest disaster-resistant construction practices, and show why Alys Beach is hailed as the first officially “Fortified” community in the world. As part of an exhibit about hurricane-force winds and flying debris, one demonstration shows an actual Alys Beach home window after being struck by a bullet traveling 1,100 miles- per-hour.

“You have to see it to believe it,” said Wagley.

The concept of the Resource Center was developed by Slaughter Group, an award-winning design firm based in Birmingham , Alabama.

“It never ceases to amaze me how much care goes into crafting the Alys Beach experience,” said Terry Slaughter , President and Founder of Slaughter Group. “Every step is carefully anticipated. The idea is that life can be-and should be-beautiful and meaningful and significant. But making that journey requires commitment, discipline and sacrifice. The Resource Center explores all of these concepts. It explores what it’s like to care about what you do, to care about how you do it, and to be totally aware of the impact it will have on future generations.”

– Alys Beach’s Resource Center is open to the public for self-guided tours every day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

ABOUT ALYS BEACH

A beautiful new resort town located on Florida’s Scenic Highway 30A, Alys Beach is the world’s most extraordinary example of New Urbanism, a method of town planning recognized by The New York Times as “the most important collective architectural movement in the past fifty years.” Master planned by Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company (DPZ), Alys Beach’s stunning architectural vision drew its inspiration from both the islands of Bermuda and the family courtyard homes of Antigua , Guatemala . Alys Beach features 1,500 feet of sugar-white beaches along the Gulf of Mexico , and when complete, the 158-acre resort town will be home to over 600 villas, rowhouses, courtyard homes and family compound retreats.

“Alys Beach may well be the most truly innovative community under construction in the United States today,” said Andres Duany of DPZ, designers of over 300 new towns and revitalization projects around the world. “Alys Beach will eventually be imitated everywhere, I am certain.”
