Registration Now Open for Free Senior Scam Workshop in Tallahassee

-

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – (RealEstateRama) — Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater’s Department of Financial Services will host a financial safety workshop for seniors next week in Tallahassee. This free Operation SAFE (Stop Adult Financial Exploitation) workshop is open to seniors, their families and caregivers, and is hosted as part of CFO Atwater’s On Guard for Seniors program. The program was launched in 2012 to educate seniors about financial topics such as annuities, identity theft, reverse mortgages and long-term care insurance.

Seniors are inundated with investment offers and requests for charitable donations and, because of it, are exposed to targeted financial scams. Next week’s workshop will focus on fraud and scams, such as fake lotteries and repair scams, and how scams prey on the psyche to convince seniors to take a chance on something that is too good to be true. The event will teach attendees how to spot fraudulent behavior, how to fight identity theft, and what to do if they fall victim to fraud.

Event details are as follows:

Tuesday, March 14
11:00 am–12:00 pm EST
Capital City Christian Church Fellowship Hall
6115 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee
Click HERE to register. Registration is encouraged; however, walk-ins are also welcome.
