With Senators Sanders, Brown, Hirono, Blumenthal Introduces Veteran Housing Stability Act of 2015

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – August 3, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — To kick start the 2015 Florida unclaimed property auction activities, the Department of Financial Services hosted a live two-hour phone bank yesterday at television studio WJXT in Jacksonville. During that time, viewers were encouraged to call in and check for unclaimed property accounts in their name. In less than 18 hours, more than 5,000 individual accounts were found in the Jacksonville area worth a combined total of more than $1 million. This figure makes last night’s phone bank the most successful in the Florida unclaimed property program’s 50-year history.

“It is our goal to return every dime of unclaimed property back to its rightful owner, and I’m proud that our phone bank helped reconnect so many Jacksonville residents with their unclaimed accounts,” said Walter Graham, Chief of the Bureau of Unclaimed Property. “I encourage all Floridians to go on a ‘treasure hunt’ of their own and check our website often for accounts we may be holding in their name.”

The 2015 unclaimed property auction will be held tomorrow, August 1, at the Jacksonville Marriott. Bidding begins at 10 a.m., and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater and Senator Aaron Bean will partner as guest auctioneers for the first few lots. This public auction features the sale of 50,000 items valued at more than $700,000.

To check for unclaimed property or to claim an account, visit www.FLTreasureHunt.org or call 1-88-VALUABLE. A free catalog, which lists each item up for sale, is also available on the website.
