Boat Docks, Kayak Launch Open at Water Works Park

WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Three new boat slips along with a kayak/paddle board launch have opened at Water Works Park in historic Tampa Heights just in time for the Independence Day holiday this weekend.

“The new boat slips at Water Works park have been a long time coming, and I know those slips will be packed this weekend with kayakers, paddle boarders, and boaters enjoying the holiday. We want to continue to encourage activity along the Hillsborough River, and to do that we have to build the infrastructure that allows for that,” said Bob Buckhorn. “Tampa is continuing to enhance our waterfront amenities, like Water Works Park, and as we do that, we need to continue to provide those opportunities to interact with the water.”

The new dock slips and kayak launch are part of the City of Tampa’s effort to provide water and recreational opportunities along the Tampa Riverwalk. Currently, the City of Tampa also operates several boat slips along the Tampa Riverwalk at the Tampa Bay History Center, Cotanchobee Park, Tampa Convention Center, and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. The cost for the new slips was included in the original construction budget for the park.

The City of Tampa is already looking at expanding the number of boat slips available at Water Works Park and intends to expand the number of slips to eight, pending the approval of the Army Corps of Engineers.
